A With individual major medical insurance, if you are currently pregnant or adopting a child, you will be automatically declined. Q What is a discount health plan?
A A discount health plan was created as an alternative to major medical, as in, if you get declined or can't afford major medical insurance; you can qualify for these types of discount plans. The only problem is that unlicensed agents try to lead consumers to believe that it is major medical insurance!!! Do not be misled! Q What is a pre existing condition?
A A pre existing condition is any medical condition that you currently have being monitored or treated or that you may be taking medications for. It could be as minor as high blood pressure, allergies and acid reflux or as major as cancer, stroke, pregnancy and diabetes.
 
Q What is a rider?
A A rider is a coverage and/or change added to a policy.
 
Q Can an insurance company discriminate against weight?
A In most states unfortunately yes, you can be considered overweight or underweight and therefore ineligible for certain insurance.

A A risk category is a class that you fit into, based on height, weight, tobacco use and or medications; this is how the insurance company determines what price to charge you.
 
Q Which risk category do I fall into?
A

There are primarily three (this is a summary; other factors may come into play):

 
1. Preferred: No medications or conditions, healthy, height/weight and non smoker
2. Standard: Includes height/weight BMI (body mass index), medication use, and still a non smoker
3. Tobacco: You are currently use tobacco products or quit less than 12 months ago
     
Q Does the risk category affect my quote?
A Yes, it can affect your price up to 35% in some cases.
 
Q What if I just quit smoking or just stopped taking medications and an agent advises me to leave it off the application?
A That agent is being unethical and potentially putting you at great risk!!! It's in your best interest to be 100% up front, if you aren't, and the insurance company finds out, your policy will be rescinded (voided or cancelled), your premium will be refunded and any claims that you may have will be unpaid and your resposibilty!!
 
Q What different companies and plan options are available in my state?
A There may be more companies available to you than you're aware of and they may have very competitive pricing. This is why it's beneficial to speak to an agent.
 
Q How do I save the most on my health insurance?
A By getting exactly what you need!! In order to determine that, you must speak to a licensed, knowledgeable agent who can guide you through your options and allow you to make an informed decision.

A Random quotes do not know your medical history. For instance, if you smoke or take medications, that will change the price. Don't be fooled by those prices. They can and most likely will change, after you submit the policy.
 
Q Is it okay to purchase insurance over the phone?
A Absolutely!!! As long as you use a reputable agent!! It's easy and these days most people don't want a stranger coming into their home.
 
Q Do I have to give my billing information?
A Yes, the one catch is that you have to pay for the insurance. ; )~
 
Q Do I have to give my social security number?
A While it is not always mandatory, it's actually better that you do provide it, this will speed up the approval process and allow the insurance company to make sure that everything is accurate.
